Massey CAP
This is the
fifth year that the Community Access Program has been up and running in
Massey. The grand opening of the site took place on July
24/1998. In order to make the CAP program become a reality the
government had to go through some hoops first.
On January
6/1998 Industry Minister John Manley announced funding for over 1000 new
CAP sites, in more than 830 rural and remote communities across
Canada. The federal
investment at that time was estimated to be about 15 million dollars.
The governments goal was to introduce Internet
capabilities to 5000 rural and remote areas by the year 2000. The Community
Access Program allows there to be free Internet training & free access
to job bank and other resources to the people in the community and visitors
alike.
The
government funding that was put into the CAP program across Canada has
helped the small community of Massey as well as many others across Canada,
to become part of the Information Superhighway which will help create jobs,
growth and other benefits associated with information technology.
This year Massey CAP is focusing on the benefits of e-commerce to all local
businesses and retailers & the accessibility of Campus Work Link to all
students and recent graduates. With the help of E-Town as our host, the
Massey and Township Public Library, the
Massey
Area
Museum as our partners, and
the CAP representative we hope to have a very successful program within the
coming months.
